LORD BRAIN SHIVA RELEASES “TRISULA”

Lord Brain Shiva is a band from Verona, Italy that formed in 2012. Since then, they’ve been perfecting a sound they describe as “Himalayan Sludge”. According to the band, they achieve this by following “a musical philosophy based on Oriental mantric-repetitive methodologies…and Western rock aesthetics.” The band’s sound has evolved since their first two albums to include weightier, lengthier songs that tend to be more complex.

This is very apparent on the band’s new album, Trisula. Overall, the album has a lumbering, hypnotic quality that is guaranteed to entrance you and transport you to another world. “Varuna” and “Stupas” are two of my favorite tracks that represent these characteristics particularly well. Other songs, such as “Al Cisneros” and “Rising Eclipse”, while certainly jauntier, still have that hypnotic quality that I love so much about Lord Brain Shiva’s sound. While you may be nodding along to the beat, your brain is somewhere else entirely, creating a rather meditative experience. This is certainly unique for a sludge band, and what I appreciate most about Lord Brain Shiva; they have a unique ability to produce a soothing kind of chaos.

I happened upon the single “Al Cisneros” somewhere in social media/music streaming platform land when it first came out, and of course my curiosity was piqued by that title. “Someone wrote a song about Al Cisneros?” I thought, “I gotta hear this.” And, I pressed play. Five minutes and fifty-eight seconds later, I emerged from trance…and pressed play again. I couldn’t get enough of it.

I’m also a fan of the lyrical trip the song provides, as evidenced here:

“Rays of ancient wisdom / Disperse in boring situations / Antipodes / by Al Cisneros

Handrails detected / as a pile of stones / and follow all the notes/ of Al Cisneros”

Whatever you do, don’t sleep on Trisula; this is one mesmeric journey that you definitely need to go on.

Trisula is now available on Spotify and Apple Music. Lord Brain Shiva’s first two albums are also available on Bandcamp. You can also follow the band on YouTubeFacebook, and Instagram

Screaming From The Heavy underground: Lord Brain Shiva Released Trisula

Huh,” I thought when I saw Lord Brain Shiva’s new single in the new releases, “Someone wrote a song called ‘Al Cisneros’? I have to hear this…” And I pressed play. Five minutes and fifty-eight seconds later, I emerged from my trance…and pressed play again. I cannot get enough of this one. I was intrigued by the name, and absolutely hooked by these utterly hypnotic riffs. This song is a lyrical trip as well, check it out:

“Rays of ancient wisdom
disperse in boring situations
antipodes
by Al Cisneros

Handrails detected
as a pile of stones
and follow all the notes
of Al Cisneros.”

Who says you need psychedelics to think abstractly when you have this?
Don’t sleep on this self-described Himalayan sludge band from Italy! I know I’ll be spending a large part of my weekend exploring some of the band’s older stuff; I’m already really digging what I’ve heard so far!
